ROCAMBOLESC RACE AT THE CHANG INTERNATIONAL CIRCUIT: VIETTI FINISHES SIXTH, LUNETTA FORCED TO RETIRE AFTER CRASH

A dramatic race unfolded today at the Chang International Circuit, marked by two red flags that significantly altered both the duration and management of the event. The race distance was reduced from the originally scheduled 22 laps to 11, and then ultimately to just 7 final laps, making the competition extremely intense and unpredictable.

Celestino finished the race in sixth position after a solid and determined performance. Despite some difficulties during the restarts, rider number 13 quickly found his rhythm again, maintaining a competitive pace even in the particularly demanding hot conditions. His race management in the decisive stages allowed him to cross the finish line with a well-earned top-six result.

It was an unfortunate day, however, for Luca Lunetta. The young Roman rider, making his seasonal debut in Moto2, had started the race with great determination. Starting from 20th position, he had already climbed up to P14 in the early stages, moving firmly into the points. At the first quick restart, a crash involving Garcia also collected Lunetta, causing the second red flag. The rider did not take part in the third restart and was immediately transported to the circuit’s Medical Center, where examinations revealed a fracture between the foot and the leg.

Luca will return to Italy to undergo the necessary surgery and begin his recovery process. Further updates will follow in the coming days.

CELESTINO VIETTI #13: 6th – 1’34.746
“It was a positive weekend: we were competitive on all three days. I’m happy with the result, even though I’m a bit disappointed because, during the restarts, I wasn’t as incisive as I would have liked. I struggled slightly with the front tyre due to the temperatures, which were even more extreme than in the previous days. We’re closing the weekend with a positive balance and some very good points scored. We’ll analyze a few mistakes to be ready when similar conditions come up again. My only regret is not having been incisive enough in the first phase”.

LUCA LUNETTA #32: DNF

“It’s difficult to say I’m happy, because getting injured is never a good thing. However, looking at the bigger picture, it was a very positive weekend and one of constant progression. We were fast right from the start, with good lap times especially in qualifying and in the race. We started aggressively and managed to recover several positions. Unfortunately, during the second restart at Turn 2, a rider on the inside crashed and his bike struck me. In the impact I suffered a fracture to my leg, the same one I had already injured in Assen. I will need to undergo surgery, but I can’t wait to get back on track. This weekend has given me a lot of motivation and confirmed that the work we’ve done in recent tests has been important: we are on the right path and we’re very close to being competitive enough to fight for even better positions. I’m pleased with the progress we made from the first session to qualifying, and I want to thank the team because we have built a lot together. It was amazing to experience my first Moto2 weekend. It didn’t end as I had hoped, but up until that moment — and considering the crash was not my fault — it was truly special. Thanks to my sponsors, friends, and family for their support. See you soon”.
